Jubilee Church is excited to be part of Worthing Foodbank which opened as the 11th Foodbank in the UK.
Worthing Foodbank is part of the Trussell Trust network of Foodbanks and is a ground-breaking initiative designed to help individuals and families in crisis by providing free emergency food. There are over 400 Trussell Trust Foodbanks in the UK, helping thousands of people in need.
What is Worthing Foodbank?
Foodbanks are designed to help people in crisis, through the provision of emergency food supplies. We help fill the gap between a crisis and long-term help. We have over 80 registered care agencies in Worthing who hold Foodbank vouchers. These agencies assess people in crisis, give the vouchers and continue to help long term where necessary. The vouchers are then taken to our distribution centres where the client will receive their 3-day food supply, a hot drink and a listening ear.
Who is it for?
We feed people from all walks of life and anyone can hit a crisis at any time. We see people who are working, on a low income, who have received an unexpected bill, people loosing jobs who are waiting for benefits to be processed, right through to domestic violence, debt and sickness.
Who can help?
Anyone who would like to make a difference in the lives of others can drop goods off at special Supermarket collections or you can support Worthing Foodbank financially.
These are run monthly. Helping here involves either sorting incoming food into boxes or handing out shopping lists to customers. You volunteer for one 2-hour slot on a Saturday between 10am and 4pm.
