The Food Bank
Jubilee Church is excited to be part of The Food Bank in Worthing. A ground-breaking initiative designed to help individuals and families in crisis by providing free emergency food until such time as the appropriate agencies are in a position to assist. This project, pioneered by the Trussell Trust, is also operating in other towns and cities in the UK, helping thousands of people in need.
What is The Food Bank? The Food Bank is a straightforward system of collection, collation and distribution of basic food items to support people at times of crisis. The Food Bank collects a variety of tinned and dried foods through supermarkets, organizations, churches and individuals.
Through a system of Food Vouchers, people who are in need can get an emergency food supply. The voucher holders are front line care professionals such as health visitors and care agencies. A voucher can be exchanged at the Food Bank Distribution Centre, at the Salvation Army Centre in Worthing, for a bag of nutritionally balanced tinned and dried food to last 3 days for a single person or a family.
Who is it for? The Food Bank is there for anyone in short term crisis due to unexpected unemployment, benefit delay, debt, sickness, etc...
Who can help? Anyone who would like to make a difference in the lives of others can drop goods off at special Supermarket collections.
Supermarket Collections These are run monthly. Helping here involves either sorting incoming food into boxes or handing out shopping lists to customers with a quick speel why we are doing it. You volunteer for one 2-hour slot on a Saturday between 10 am and 4 p.m. Contact Julie on 01903 821921 or...
