Help us support people facing hunger this winter by joining us for the UK’s biggest food collection
Foodbank Collection on Friday 6th & Saturday 7th July at Tesco in Durrington.
A huge thank you to all the volunteers who helped during our last collection. We managed to take an amazing 1961.10kgs of food. It’s a great team effort and the project could not run without you. I am so grateful to you all.
Our next collection is on Saturday 15th September at Morrisons in Worthing.
The jobs for the collection at the store include handing out shopping lists and collecting/organising the donated food.
We also need volunteers to drive the van to collect the donated food and deliver in to our warehouse, where a team will be to sort the donated food.
If you are interested in volunteering and would like to join any of teams please email Julie Denyer on email@example.com
These donations will be used to provide three-days of emergency food to people in crisis. Foodbanks work with frontline professionals to identify people in need and issue them with a foodbank voucher. These include organisations such as children’s centres, housing associations, welfare agencies and community mental health teams.
Following the collection, Tesco generously tops up the customer food donations gifting an extra 20% as a financial contribution to the foodbanks. Every donated item will not only help provide vital food for people experiencing crisis, but gain additional top up funding that will help Trussell Trust foodbanks provide much needed further support.
We are thrilled that Tesco, the UK’s largest supermarket, shares our vision that no one should go hungry, and is working together with The Trussell Trust and FareShare to empower local communities to fight poverty.
Will you join us to help stop UK hunger?
Donate in store: TESCO, DURRINGTON
Our volunteers will be handing out shopping lists during the day, so please consider donating an item or two at your nearest store, to help stop people going hungry in your community.
About a year ago we started our BODY BASIC initiative; to provide toiletries to our Foodbank clients. So we are asking any individuals or organisations who wants to give, to provide toiletries rather than food.
People wishing to donate items to the Body Basics initiative can do so outside of the FOODBANK Collections by delivering donations to:
Findon Valley Free Church - 1-11 Limetree Avenue, Findon Valley, Worthing, BN14 0DJ. Tuesday to Friday 9am-12pm.
The Shelter Charity Shop - 131 Montague Street, Worthing, BN11 3BP. Monday to Saturday 9am-5pm. Sunday 10am-4pm.
The items being collected are:
If you are an organisation who wants to help Worthing Foodbank, you can set up a BODY BASIC collection at your work and once you have a good amount, bring it to the foodbank centre. Please conact Foodbank Manager on firstname.lastname@example.org or 07918759664
During this period Foodbank has fed 1590 people in crisis a 3-day food supply, That's 14,310 meals.
In the same year we collected 13,525.15 kgs of food from the customers of the supermarkets where we collect and gave out over 17 tonnes. A big thank you to everyone who donates food to the project. You help so many people!
Agencies using the vouchers
The largest distributor of the vouchers by far this year has been the Citizens Advice Bureau.
We are running the project from:-
Worthing Foodbank at Worthing Tabernacle
4, Chapel road
Through the alleyway at the side of the church building, we are the building to the right of the cafe.
Open Monday to Friday from 2pm till 3.30pm (5 days)
We rely on Financial donations from the public to run Foodbank and currently receive 1/2 of what's needed financially to do this! We also receive occasional one-off gifts too, so if you would like to support us, you could become one of the 250 people needed per month to donate just £2 by standing order to help us continue to help those in need. Please do contact email@example.com if you could help in this way.
